So ive been talking for months about the need to upgrade the FurrTrax main server, and based on my estimates of the sites current stats, if i assume at least half of the active users will use the instant messenger that im building, the server will start to really slow down when i release it, and thats something none of us want to see is furrtrax responding as fast as FA durring their worst DoS attack, i remember page loads taking 60 seconds plus at times to fully cache.

What do we need???
Well its rather simple, we dont need a new server, the current one has a very powerfull motherboard and platform already, but it has two components that are holding a lot of its potential power back.  The Processor, and the RAM....

Right now we have an AMD Quad Core CPU, 2.6 GHZ, and 16 GB of RAM (2 x 2gb, 1 x 4gb, 1 x 8gb)

Frys Electronics has 8 GB Sticks of RAM for 44 bucks right now, and an 8 Core CPU for 179.99.

The RAM would be preferable to do first, i can always grab the CPU once i have a job again.

Can anyone help contribute to the cause, OR, if anyone has said hardware, or a 6 or 8 core AMD CPU they dont need, donate it?

Wish my desktop components would help, I've got a phenom II x4 quad core 3.2 ghz processor and 4 gigs DDR3 ram, can't remember the model of mobo but it's gigabyte, and the GPU, if it works is a GTS 250, but ONE of the parts isn't working, as it won't POST anymore, so the hard drive was pulled for use as an external. Any of the other parts are up for grabs, though they're likely going to a computer shop once we get what we can from it.

Actually we already finished the upgrades, we moved to a Dual Intel I7 system.
