Skipping ahead to later years, we find our young character dealing with hardships many only dream of.

Waking with a start, sweat clinging to her brow, as a heavy shaky breath escaped her. Pushing the dreamed memory away she sat up in her bed, the room still dark. Standing and stretching her arms and back before walking to the mouth of the cave that she called home. Her bed a simple mat of hay and animal skins. Looking out over the terrain, the sun barely cresting over the distant hills, a soft sigh escapes her, “To early to be up to late to sleep. Ah well... might as well start the day early...” Another soft sigh as she planned through the day, softly padding back to her bed. She grabbed a discarded tunic, custom made to fit around her wings, the low cut sleeves gave her wings just enough room to flare out for flight. Though for her to get the elongated finger-like bones at her wrist and elbow through the sleeves always proved a challenge. Once the tunic covered her torso she pulled up her soft leather pants. Around her hips she wrapped a sturdy leather belt and attached a sheath and small dagger.
She walked back to the mouth of the cave, grabbing the nearly black cloak that rested on a small boulder. Going out barefoot, she lightly clicked her claws on the ground, though tired she was happy to be going to see her master, and adoptive father, so early. She stifled a yawn before leaping from the cliff at the mouth of the cave, well hidden in the mountain.
The flight, though short, seemed to leave her breathless. She landed in the woods just outside of town and caught her breath. She gripped her chest and shook her heard, dragging in a shaky breath, letting it out in a calmer manner. Releasing her chest she stood tall and wrapped the dark cloak around her narrow shoulders. Lifting the hood over her ears, and kept them folded back, her horns shifted slightly, lowering as much as they could. Glancing around before she walked in the direction of a traders route.
The dirt of the small road covered her feet as she crossed the small wooden bridge into town. Looking around as the people started opening their shops, already prepping for the day. The smell of sweet breads hung in the air, with a quick sniff she could smell the savory scent of meat pies being prepared, masked by the scent smell that clung like mist to the air.
Her stomach growled and her pace quickened, though she knew she could very easily get plenty to fill her belly for free, she did not want to sully her name in her master's home town. At least not yet.
Reaching his home, though two stories, it was small. The first floor being mainly the kitchen, with a bedroom upstairs, at least to the untrained eye. She softly rapped on the door, a series of three knocks, a pause, three more knocks, another pause, and finally two knocks. After a moment the door opened a crack and with seeing the guest the older man swung open the door and embraced his daughter and favorite pupil.
He pulled back and gripped her shoulders, grinning ear to ear. “My dear, you are here early!” He exclaimed happily, “Come in, come in.” He ushers her in and she follows gladly. Sitting at the small table in the kitchen he asks, “Come, my daughter, tell me why you came so early in the day?”
Her smile fades some and she looks down at the table. Seeing a cup placed in her line of sight makes her look with with another smile. “Well father, I had a... a bad dream. Of what had happened in the castle.” He sits quietly and nods. His face blank aside from the hint of a smile that played at the corners of his mouth.
He finally opens his mouth to speak and says, “Did it play through fully?” She watches him a moment as he speaks, lifting the small glass to her lips and drinks the sweet fluid, he always managed to make it as sweet as she liked.
Looking to him again, “No it ended in the same place. It felt like it was going to continue, but it got fuzzy like always.” A sigh escapes her as the rest of the memory dances through her mind, the dream being almost identical.
“Don't worry my dear, you are still young. Your draconic blood will keep you alive for centuries, no single bad memory should ruin your entire life...” He trails off knowing she could remember further back, but not wanting to speak of it. “You have matured much quicker than I ever anticipated, though you are still young. 25 winters, and still only look like the child that I found. Maybe that's just what these tired old eyes will ever see.” He gives her a warm smile and stands, she gets up, and together they move the table. The man named Taalic knelt down and lifted a hatch, revealing a dark tunnel that dropped straight down. He went down first, a moment later a soft thud is heard and the young half breed, Waive, jumped down with a smile.
