So one of the companies i do some business with is migrating one of their systems to the cloud and they will soon have a Dell R710 Server that they no longer need and they made me this tantalizing offer for it the specs are:
2 x Quad Core Xeon 5640 Processors 96 GB RAM with capacity for 288GB of RAM, it currently has 12 x 8GB sticks, and 6 empty slots PERC H700 SAS Controller with builtin Backup Battery and 512MB of controller cache Dual Redundant power supplies 2 x 146GB SAS drives 6 empty 2.5 inch drive bays 8 Gigabit Network Connections New DataCenter Mounting Rails $690
We would not need any server upgrades for god only knows how long.
Whats more is, i just picked up on Black Friday special, 2 x 500 GB Patriot SSDs with Phison Controllers that can push 560MB/s each
One way or another i want this box, our current server does not have redundant power supplies, or backup batteries on the controller and its RAM and CPU are totally maxxed out, tho were only actually using at peak, 10% of its throughput power, except for once in a while when a DoS attack hits and we go to like 25% peak.
