Well im not completely suprised to see apparently their old owners are cashing out, As of January it seems IMVU owns FurAffinity, interestingly they withheld this information for some time tho. Im sure everyone involved in the sale will say its not about money, its about making the service better, but somehow i seriously doubt that little story will hold forever. Big boys flashed the cash, and the owners caved.
Im curious to see how long it takes for all the user advertisments to get diluted with other more monetarily beneficial ads from IMVU and their partners.
Comments:
Tyler Snow: IMVU has furs on it I made my custom made fursona on that site I love IMVU and I think it's great IMVU owns FA |
Kungfu Kitty: I wish more could be done for all us furrs. |
Zuu: honestly its like how yahoo bought tumblr, its not that bad, some ads here and there but still tumblrthe bad thing is is the amount of furry art theft on IMVU that comes from FAi think art theft is bad and all but only if the person intends on selling said artthe fix to that is to put a water mark OVER the art, not in the cornerIMVU is a shitty SL anyways and its only used by 12 year olds anyways |
Wolfer: Wow... |
Wolfer: Wow... |
Fang The Wolf: And this is why I use DeviantART, I had my suspicions about FA for over a year, and even then, I've only made a FA to commission artists. Time to transfer to DA furs. It may be sad how this all played out but, We all know what is about to go down, It is a big deal. Don't deny the truth of what IMVU is going to do with the site, It will soon be a non fur art commissioning site for artists all around the world. I know, Why would this be a issue or impact that furries would leave? Because the furry artwork will all soon be reported by furhaters and or non fur organizations. Thus, IMVU as non furs will take action and take their 'Non Furry' community's word before our own. I say, You all may as well join DA if you haven't already and make plans that way to stay in contact with your friends and such before it's to late. Don't get me wrong, I am highly upset about it too, Especially since it was bought out by a non fur community. But as furs, There is nothing we can do except plan for the future in alternate communications. It sickens me that a large fur database would sell out for a load of cash and not care at all about their members or furry community. |
Karl Rayne: Ooh. I guess I'll stay out of this one. I am speechless on this one. |
Karsh: In all honesty. What irks me and a number of otger users is not the fact that the site was bought by IMVU. Its mainly because the sale was kept hidden from the public. After the reported sale. FA still asked for bloody donations. Where did all that donated cash went if the site was already acquired? |
Nato: I dont see the site lasting very long. It runs itself pretty well but I am sure as the previous comment said, they will replace the ads, or make more ads, to put out their own stuff or other forprofit advertisements. I agree that the site should also only be run by furs because otherwise they probably wont grasp how important the site is to most of the furry community and when they lose interest the site will just be left to change as they feel is best as non furs. I am afraid for the future of the site because it has for a long time been a major nerve center for furry social media. If it goes down then lots of people will lose a lot of friends and hard work that theyve had on the site. Lets all just hope they sit back and dont mess up anything... |
Fesothe: If the IMVU owners are not furs then they have no business investing or owning FA as it could lead to closure of a large communityportalsite like with all take overs when the new owners decide its not worth maintaining, if I cared about FA I would probably be really upset though I can bet many users will leave at least in the short term, but to hand over control of a community that manages itself very well and needs to govern itself without corporate influence and influence of none furs is really like treason to the community, it opens he doors to more problems than it resolves, though I can understand the need for investment, but I don't know all the facts and really I don't care about FA. |
